This is the proposed reconstruction of the painting before it even appeared at the Salon of 1864. Outlined in red are the images beleived to be in the original painting. The small bull in the upper left corner is an educated guess. That part of the original is missing and we do know there was a bull in the painting. The figures of the bullfighters and the wall are smaller in this version. The large toreador in the foreground seems to have had the position of his feet reworked.
