The Virgin's Wedding Procession |
||||||||
The subject matter of this fresco has caused a lot of debate. There seems to be three different opinions. The fresco is showing the Virgin returning to the temple after her marriage, or that is it showing the Virgin returning to her parents house, or perhaps the Virgin going to her new home with Joseph. This fresco is notable for it's beautifully elongated figures moving in rhythm across the surface to the sounds of the musical instruments. The leaf protruding from the balcony is a sign of the Virgin's pregnancy. Much of the upper half of this fresco has been badly damaged. The musical instruments are barely visible. A wooden grate has been set into the right side, destroying a considerable amount of paint. |
