Joseph unwillingly adds his branch to the others. Soon after placing his branch on the altar it blooms into flower. Giotto chose to show a strong sense of anticipation and hope. The telling of the story undergoes a change. Giotto wants the spectator to use their imagination to fill in the intervening elements of the story. |
