Bohemian High court art of around 1380 to 1420 is so luminous the the entire movement is called the Beautiful Style. We have no idea of the identity of this superb painter and sculptor- for whoever painted the Madonna also carved the tiny impeccable figures of saints in the frame. Each figure would be considered a masterpiece of the period if it alone survived. Who would dare represent the mother of Christ as a gorgeous woman of the court?
