The Visitation |
||||||||
Standing outside on a porch the Virgin and St. Elizabeth embrace. When St. Elizabeth visited the Virgin, two worlds met-
the old represented by the prophets, of whom John the Baptist was the last, and the
new represented by Christ, who brought the era of grace. In their embrace the two woman bridge the gap between
the Old and the New Testaments. Even though the Virgin is the younger woman, St. Elizabeth bows respectfully
as a sign of deference to Mary's holiness. |
