WOLFF, Albert
1835-1891

Born in Germany, Wolff became a very influential journalist as editor and, from 1868, principal art critic of Le Figdro. He promoted mainly academic artists and was deeply hostile to the Impressionists. His reviews of Manet's work were consistently, often grossly uncomprehending although their social relations remained cordial.
