Commandant Lejosne, a military officer with strong Republican sympathies, and his wife (nee Valentine Therse(?) Cazalis-Allut) were enthusiastic supporters of the literary, artistic and musical avant garde. Mme Lejosne appears seated in Manet's Music in the Tuileries.
