LEENHOFF family
Manet's wife Suzanne (1830-1906), the daughter of a Dutch organist, was an excellent pianist who taught the young Manet brothers. Her illegitimate son Leon (1852-1927), whose father was named as Koella on the birth certificate was almost with certainty Manet's son, and was always referred to as his mother's younger brother. Suzanne's sculptor brother Ferdinand (1841-1914) posed for Le dejeuner sur l'herbe. Her sister Marthe (Martiena) married the artist Jules Vibert and there are references to their children Alexandre and Edouard. Leon Koella-Leenhoff inherited Manet's estate after his mother's death.
