"Can I use images from this site for other purposes?"

You are free to use up to five or six images from the site for any personal non-profit, educational purpose. This would primarily be your personal home page, but could also be, for example, one-time use for an offline presentation. Provide credit to "mystudios.com" as the source for each scan. If the images are used on a web site, display the credit in the form of a link to the site, i.e. "Scan courtesy of MyStudios".

It is imperative that you do NOT link directly to the images in their current location. You must download each image used and host it on your own web space. NOTE: The only exception to this would be if you link to the entire page, including the MyStudios logo, along with the image, e.g. <A HREF="http://www.mystudios.com/manet/1850/manet_rembrandt.html">

"Are you going to add more artists and images to the site?"

Yes, this is just a start. I am going to add to the number of images and articles for the artists currently online, as well as increase the number of artists included in the site. A partial listing of additional artists under development includes:

  • Vermeer
  • Cezanne
  • Adding more Manet images and info
  • Adding more women artists
  • Adding to the Greatest Works list;

"Can I link to your site / Will you link to my site?"

You are welcome to link to MyStudios, and thanks! You can paste this link if you wish:

<A HREF="http://www.mystudios.com">MyStudios</A>

If YOUR site specifically concerns one of the artists featured at MyStudios, and I deem it worthy of inclusion in the Resource listing, I will add it. There is no place, however, for "reciprocal links" to your personal or general interest site.

"Will you do my homework for me?"

I don't mean to be cynical, but based on my experience with internet emails, dozens of them, schools and universities seem to think that research on the web consists of emailing me to ask if I can give them any info on artist XYZ. If I have information on these artists, trust me, it is online or in the process of being put online. If you don't find it at this site, it sounds like you need to be spending more time in the library. That's where I find most of my information.

"Hey, idiot, you left out [Artist XYZ], the greatest artist in history!"

I will be adding artists and images to the site as time goes on. Please come back often to see if your particular favorite has been included. Also try the Artchive as that site has over 200 artists and 2,000 images. See also "Are you going to add more artists and images to the site?"

RETURN TO FAQ LISTING

"Where can I buy prints or posters?"

I suggest you try Printmaster INC. They have a large selection and offer personalized service. You can email Sherrie or call toll free 800-929-3925 with your requests.

"Can I advertise my product on your site?"

Certainly, although I accept no commission-based advertising. If you are interested in buying ad banner space at CPM rates, please contact me.

RETURN TO FAQ LISTING

"How can I print out the images?"

Remember that the images are to be used only for non-proft, personal, educational purposes. The print quality will not be high resolution, in any case.

With the desired image displayed in your browser, RIGHT-click on it with your mouse and select "View Image". The URL of the page should now end in ".jpg". Simply select "File", then "Print". These are Netscape instructions, MS Internet Explorer should be similar.

Separate graphics software can provide better printing capability. Download the image to your hard drive and consult the software's help file for instructions.

"I have an old print or oil painting in the attic and I might be rich! Can you tell me if it's worth anything?"

I am not an expert in art evaluation. I suggest you contact Charles Sherman at his web site, or by phone at (800) 410-6977.

"Is this site connected with Mark Harden's Artchive?"

It is connected in the sense that Mark Harden taught me everything I know about scanning and html. Although I built this site by myself Mark's influence is clearly seen when browsing through the site. Naturally, many people will be interested in both the paintings and sculpture at The Artchive and the photographs at Masters of Photography, and I invite you to enjoy the art at both of Mark's sites.

RETURN TO FAQ LISTING

"Can I license these images? Do you have any information on copyright?"

I do not license these images for commercial use under any circumstances.

MyStudios includes both public domain and copyrighted works of art. The copyrighted works are presented under the Fair Use Provision of the Copyright Act. Holders of image copyrights are highly encouraged to provide me contact information, so that I may properly refer the many requests for licensing, evaluations, original artwork availability, etc. that I receive. My goal is to assure that the site helps copyright owners to realize financial benefit from the availability of their images in MyStudios.

First, a disclaimer that I am not an intellectual property attorney, and the information below is just what I have informally learned regarding copyright of art images...

Art copyright falls into two categories under the Berne Convention, copyrighted works and public domain works:

If the artist is alive or has been dead less than seventy years, all rights to reproductions of his or her work reside with the artist or his estate. A couple of good starting points for obtaining rights are:
