c/o M. Leblond, 162 rue de Boston
Boulogne-sur-mer, 29 July [1868]
TO EDGAR DEGAS
I'm planning to make a little trip to London, tempted by
the low cost of the journey; do you want to come along? You can go from Paris to London ist
class return for 3 1 francs ~o; buy your ticket from M. Spiers, 13 rue de la Paix. I think we
should explore the terrain over there since it could provide an outlet for our products.
I can't afford to spend more than three or four days in England.
Let me know immediately because I will write and tell Legros what day we'll be arriving
so that he can act as our interpreter and guide. If you can persuade Fantin to come with you,
that would be delightful.
Regards to Duranty, Fantin, Zola, if you see them tell them I'll be writing to them one of
these days.
I'm enclosing a list of departure times.
By leaving on Saturday i August at 4 in the afternoon, we can embark the same evening on
the midnight boat.
I wouldn't really be able to get away after that until the end of August because of a move
we're obliged to make here - whereas now we would be able to see the picture exhibition
[at the Royal Academy] which is still open.
Let me know by return and keep the luggage to a minimum.
