We humans are filled with desires for connection, meaning, sustenance, and delight. I portray these influences in oil painting and mixed media work. I am inspired by my passion for Italian history, art, and culture and by the exuberance of the 19th century French "rebels", particularly douard Manet.
Many of my paintings are done in oil on found wood, such as vintage cupboard doors. I love the interaction of oil paint on wood surfaces and also the sense of layers of history and experience evoked by using aged supports. Sometimes I incorporate text into my work to add an additional layer of visual and emotional connection to the viewer.
I am emboldened by my predecessors to create work that is rich, meaningful, and filled with the mystery, humor, and joy of life.
